“Christian Community Health Fellowship: Living out the gospel through healthcare to the poor”

Sharing Christ with my patients every day...

"Countless passages in the Bible point to the fact that God desires for us to be well - in mind, body, and spirit. Only a right relationship with the Creator of the universe, the Creator of each of us, can truly bring about physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing. That is why I am a part of this work at Faith Family Medical Clinic. I have the opportunity every day to share Christ with my patients, sometimes in a very overt way and sometimes in a more subtle way.

"I have started to understand the joys of serving Christ while working at Faith Family. I know that God has called me to this ministry, and He desires for me to see each patient as He sees him or her - as one created in His image, one He loves. I don't spend my day only focusing on uncontrolled hypertension, unsightly foot ulcers, or mounds of paperwork. Instead, I try to delight in the gifts God has given to me to be able to examine the retina, palpate an abdomen, devise a plan of care, and even scribble out a prescription. I find joy in listening to the life stories my patients disclose to me. I celebrate with them when they reach their weight loss goals or finally stop smoking. I am honored to be able to pray with my patients or share a passage of Scripture. Mostly, though, I enjoy being a part of their lives - focusing on the whole person - the person God desires them to be.

"My job provides the opportunity to treat people wholly, to provide concern, comfort, and spiritual care, as well as managing disease. Jessica Stevens, NP, Christ Community Health Services, Memphis, TN

Living and working in the inner city has shown me how powerful ministry can be in the context of relationships. God has taught me more about who He is and how loving my neighbor, serving the poor, widowed and orphaned is not just a command, but an incredible blessing. It is an opportunity to live cross-culturally, to step outside of comfort zones and come alongside my patients, and see a glimpse of what my patients face on a daily basis.

Our Clinics

Dr. Bryan Hollinger, MD
Esperanza Health Center, Philadelphia, PA

“Faith in Jesus affects patient’s behavior, emotions, and social structures, and favorably affects the health provider as well. Faith is not a supplement to, but the foundation for the most effective primary care health care models.” Bryan Hollinger is the Medical Director at Esperanza Health Center, Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Bill Warren, MD
Good Samaritan, Atlanta GA

Dr. Bill Warren left a lucrative pediatrics practice in the suburbs of Atlanta to start Good Samaritan in 1999. He converted an old paint store to a clinic, and started with a staff of 8 and a handful of volunteers. 90% of their patients have no health coverage. Committed to "Spreading Christ's love through quality health care to those in need", they had over 19,000 opportunities to do that last year.

Brett Lawton
Jericho Road Family Practice, Buffalo, NY

"I have a keener sense of my impact on actual lives and the ability to pour myself into a job that seems to directly tie into what I think the Kingdom of God is like. It is worth so much more than the relatively safe and well-paying jobs I left." Brett Lawton is Practice Manager at Jericho Road Family Practice, Buffalo, NY

Our Patients

Christ House, Washington, D.C.

Dignity — “I’ve seen people come in here like they lost their last hope; and I’ve seen people walk out with a smile on their face. It’s not all in the medicine. It’s the way they treat you and make you feel like you are part of society.” Sylvester was a homeless man when he first walked into Christ House in Washington D.C.

Columbia Road Health Services, Washington, D.C.

Advocacy — Miguel has chronic renal failure. He was unable to receive the treatment he needed until he received help from an NP and case worker at Columbia Road Health Services in Washington, D.C. “It is satisfying to ensure that patients receive the best care possible. Columbia Road Health Services is able to transcend typical barriers and assure that all patients receive care.”

Jericho Road

Empowerment — Ethan grew up in the working class neighborhood that Jericho Road serves. He came as a patient, and then began to volunteer his time to help them help families like his. He became an intern, working on the front desk. His experience there helped him decide to become a doctor. “At my workplace I witness practical Christianity each day. This is why I work at Jericho Road.” Ethan starts med school in August of ’09.
