John Boll; The management of pain in underserved communities is challenging as providers strive to bring healing. This challenge is more pronounced with recent paradigm changes in pain management. This session covers principles in regards to pain treatment, including the prevention of pain and addiction, harm reduction, and methods to maximize non-opioid alternatives for pain management. It addresses the new challenges providers face in the wake of the current opioid crisis by reviewing cases highlighting unique aspects of acute and chronic, non-malignant pain treatment.
